Privacy policy
Last updated 7 November 2026.
CrimeAustralia publishes crime statistics for Australian places. There are no accounts and no sign-up, and we do not ask for your name, email or other contact details.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard request details (IP address, page requested, time, browser type) to keep the service running and secure. Logs are kept for a limited period and are not sold.
- Address and location lookups. When you use the address report or "use my location", the coordinates are used to find your suburb. They are rounded, not linked to you, and not stored in our database. The request may appear in server logs.
- Display preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
Advertising
We show ads served by Google AdSense to keep the site free. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on those visits.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Other services your browser contacts
- Map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org).
- Chart and map libraries from public CDNs (cdn.jsdelivr.net, unpkg.com).
- Our content delivery network, Cloudflare, which processes requests to protect and speed up the site.
Each of these receives your IP address when your browser fetches files from it, as with any website.
Your rights
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Because we don't keep accounts or profiles, there is usually nothing held about you to access or correct. For questions, contact us through the details on this site's domain registration.
About the data
The crime figures are published government statistics for areas, not individuals. See the methodology for sources and licences.
